Orientation and Transition

Purdue Orientation Programs facilitate the transition of new and transfer undergraduate students by preparing them to be academically successful, educating them on their responsibilities, and guiding their integration into campus culture. Programs include Summer Transition, Advising, and Registration (STAR), STAR Transfer Day, Boiler Gold Rush (BGR), and BGR International.

Summer Transition, Advising and Registration (STAR)

Congratulations on your admission to Purdue! Your first stop will be Purdue’s day-long Summer Transition, Advising and Registration (STAR) program, where you'll meet your academic advisor, register for classes, tour campus, and more.

First-year students enrolling this fall must attend STAR. You may bring up to two guests, who will attend and learn how to support you as a Boilermaker. Students register themselves and guests for STAR via the myPurdue portal. Undergraduate students transferring to Purdue may sign up for STAR Transfer Day. International students and others who are unable to attend participate in an online version, called Virtual STAR.

Boiler Gold Rush (BGR)

Boiler Gold Rush (BGR) takes place the week before fall classes begin, and Purdue encourages all incoming students to take part. You’ll learn about campus traditions, Purdue culture and University resources. It’s also a great chance to make lasting friendships and learn how to be a successful Boilermaker.

About BGR

Boiler Gold Rush International (BGRi) provides orientation for new international undergraduate students. It also enables international students to move in and begin acclimating early. The four-day program takes place the week before BGR and is free to the first 1,000 international students who enroll in and pay for BGR!

SOC really knows how to make an entrance! These eight leaders absolutely killed it at Boiler Gold Rush opening ceremonies. Gotta love seeing their hard work pay off.
We had a great time at BGRi Opening Ceremonies tonight! Incredibly excited to welcome 770 international students from 70 different countries!
Boiler Gold Rush International has officially begun! We are meeting new students, moving them in and even getting their accounts set up too. We love hearing about where our new students are coming from. Where are you coming from?
